We’re excited to share the story of one of our clients who came to the U.S. after waiting over a decade under one green card petition before reaching out to us, and ultimately succeeded in getting his I-130 approved swiftly. If you’ve ever experienced a closed door during your immigration journey, our client’s story of resilience will encourage you!
Our client’s story began when he traveled from Jamaica to the U.S. as a child on a visitor’s visa. He was originally a derivative of his grandmother’s petition for his mother, but the process was taking about 15 years, putting him at risk of aging out. His mother remained in Jamaica until the family’s visa interview date at the U.S. embassy in Kingston.
The client did not attend the immigrant visa interview with his mother because he was here inside the U.S. Unfortunately, his mother was found inadmissible and he would not have been granted a visa if he’d waited to join the rest of his family for this interview. The family did not obtain sound legal advice along the way, otherwise, they would have known about the mother’s chances of obtaining a green card.
Thankfully, our client did not give up his journey for lawful permanent residency! Somewhere along the way, he fell in love and got married to his future wife, a U.S. citizen.
In November 2022, the couple hired us to prepare an I-130 marriage-based petition on their behalf. The young married couple did not have a lot of evidence, as they had only been married for several months when we submitted the applications. We submitted mail, joint bank statements, text messages, social media posts and pictures to provide evidence of their love story. The marriage petition proved to be a better option for him, and his case was submitted in May 2023.
His I-130 petition was approved in March 2024 without an interview!
He has also recently submitted his medical examination report to USCIS—his final step to obtaining his green card through adjustment of status!
After over a decade’s wait for a family petition, and less than 10 months after submitting his case with us, he will become a lawful permanent resident.
