Client from the Philippines Has $1.8 Million Immigration Fine Rescinded

Our client from the Philippines received life-changing news after the government agreed to rescind an immigration civil fine of more than $1.8 million.

His Story

The client first came to our office in September 2024 seeking help with his immigration case.

We prepared and filed an I-130 immigrant petition through his United States citizen spouse so he could begin the process of pursuing lawful permanent residence.

While the I-130 petition was still pending, the client unexpectedly received a Notice of Violation and Order to Pay Civil Penalty in April 2026.

The notice alleged that he had failed to depart the United States following a prior order of removal and imposed a civil fine exceeding $1.8 million. The notice gave him only 15 days to challenge the penalty.

How We Helped

After carefully reviewing the case and the circumstances surrounding the alleged violation, our office quickly prepared and submitted a detailed appeal in May 2026, explaining why the fine should not remain in effect.

Just ten days later, the government issued a notice confirming that the civil fine had been rescinded.

The Outcome

The successful rescission of the penalty removed a major obstacle from the client’s immigration case and gave him renewed hope about his future.

Although our client previously departed the United States in compliance with immigration requirements, he is married to a United States citizen and is pursuing the immigrant visa process through that relationship.

We are happy for our client that the civil fine is no longer hanging over his case and that he can now move forward with peace of mind.

His case is a reminder that even individuals facing complicated immigration histories or serious government penalties may still have options available.

Careful legal review, quick action, and strategic advocacy can make a meaningful difference.
