Asylum Victory For Our Client From Cameroon

Today, we are excited to share the inspiring story of our recent success in securing asylum for a client from Cameroon, demonstrating our dedication and expertise in immigration law.

The client’s journey with us began in May 2021 when his mother sought our assistance to apply for asylum for him.

This was no ordinary case, as it involved a complex legal landscape that required a nuanced approach and thorough understanding of asylum laws.

The story dates to December 2002 when our client’s mother was granted asylum.

At that time, our client was just nine years old.

After years of living in the U.S., our client’s mother became a naturalized citizen in May 2012, further cementing their roots in the country.

In September 2018, our client entered the United States as a dependent of an asylee.

However, the situation took a challenging turn when our client’s mother, now a naturalized citizen, no longer met the definition of an asylee.

Additionally, our client had turned 28, meaning he no longer met the definition of a “child” under immigration law.

These factors posed significant hurdles, preventing our client from adjusting his status to that of a lawful permanent resident based on his mother’s asylum application.

Understanding the complexities involved, we decided to submit a Nunc Pro Tunc Asylum Application in March 2022.

This legal strategy allows an individual to seek asylum based on their own fear of future persecution, leveraging the previously granted asylum of a family member—in this case, our client’s mother.

This approach required meticulous preparation, extensive documentation, and a compelling presentation of our client’s circumstances.

In our application, we presented compelling evidence that show the real and ongoing threat to our client if he were forced to return to Cameroon.

By aligning his circumstances with his mother’s past persecution, we built a solid case for his nunc pro tunc asylum application.

Our persistence paid off when the client was scheduled for an initial interview at the Houston Asylum Office in August 2022, followed by another interview in August 2023.

Each step required thorough preparation, ensuring that every detail was addressed, and our client was well-prepared to present his case.

Finally, in April 2024, after nearly three years of diligent work, we received the news that our client’s asylum application had been approved.

We are immensely proud of this achievement and the positive impact it has had on our client’s life.

Our firm remains committed to advocating for those in need, navigating complex legal challenges, and securing favorable outcomes for our clients.
