Client’s relationship with his USC wife was fast! In March 2017, they met on Facebook. Four months later, she proposed to him. In February 2018, they got married during her visit to Nigeria.
In April 2019, the US embassy in Nigeria approved his CR1 visa (2-year green card). He entered the US that same month to begin his new life with his wife and her children. Unfortunately, less than a year later, they were divorced! The couple had a lot of marital problems and separated 6 months after he arrived.
His wife went to his job and assaulted him. She then filed for divorce behind his back. In February 2020, the divorce was finalized.
In July 2020, he had a consultation with Attorney McBean Pompy. He was really concerned about whether he would be able to get his 10-year green card on his own. However, it was too early to start his case because the I-751 Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence cannot be filed too early.
In December 2020, he came back to us to start his case. He knew that if his case was denied, he could be placed in removal proceedings.
He was also under a lot of emotional stress because his mom was sick back home in Nigeria, and he was really struggling. Although he did not have a lot of evidence, we were still able to show that he had a good faith marriage. We also showed that he would suffer “extreme hardship” if he returned to Nigeria. On April 9, 2021, we filed his waiver case before his 2-year green card expired.
On May 7, 2022, his case was approved without an interview! He could not believe the news!
We are extremely happy for him in light of all the hardships he faced during his short marriage.
