We’re thrilled to share an inspiring story of perseverance and hope during this holiday season.
Navigating the U.S. immigration system can be a daunting experience, filled with uncertainty and complex legal processes.
One of our clients faced numerous hurdles from detention and removal proceedings to achieving her goal of becoming a Lawful Permanent Resident.
Her story shows the power of persistence, the importance of the right legal representation, and the opportunities that arise with proper legal guidance.
In 2018, our client entered the United States via the southern border and applied for admission at the port of entry.
She was detained for about four months—an experience that is often deeply stressful and overwhelming.
During her detention, she applied for asylum based on her fear of returning to Cameroon, a country where her safety and future were at significant risk.
In January 2019, she was issued a Notice to Appear (NTA) in Immigration Court, initiating her removal proceedings.
After being released on parole, she remained determined to find a legal path forward and build a life in the United States.
While navigating this challenging process, she reconnected with her current spouse—a U.S. citizen whom she had known back in Cameroon.
Their bond grew stronger, and they married in 2021.
Soon after, in 2022, the couple welcomed their first child together.
Her husband, a U.S. citizen at the time of their marriage, filed an I-130 Petition for Alien Relative on her behalf in February 2022.
Unfortunately, like many others, her case experienced delays, remaining pending at the National Benefits Center for over 18 months.
Meanwhile, her previous attorney worked on terminating her removal proceedings.
This was a critical step in her case, as termination would allow her to pursue Adjustment of Status (AOS) without the complications of an active removal case.
In April 2023, her removal proceeding was dismissed —a major milestone in her immigration journey.
In 2023, she came to our firm seeking guidance on her next steps.
After carefully reviewing her entry records, parole documentation, and NTA, we determined that she was eligible to apply for Adjustment of Status with USCIS.
Our strategy was clear, we would prepare and file her AOS application alongside evidence demonstrating her eligibility and the bona fide nature of her marriage.
In March 2023, we filed her I-130 and I-485 applications with USCIS.
The waiting period can often be the most nerve-wracking part of the process, but our client remained patient and optimistic.
Less than nine months after filing, we received the news we had all been waiting for: both her I-130 and I-485 applications were approved!
Our client was officially granted Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status.
This case is a prime example of why having the right legal representation matters.
Despite the numerous obstacles she faced—including detention, asylum proceedings, and delayed petition processing—her persistence, combined with the support of skilled legal representation, led to a successful outcome.
We are thrilled for our client and her family as they begin this new chapter in their lives.
Becoming a Lawful Permanent Resident has opened the door to stability, opportunity, and a brighter future for her and her loved ones.
