In Less Than 3 Months, Client Approved for Green Card Through U.S. Citizen Spouse

How does a newly married couple build legal stability in the United States?

Our client from Guyana arrived in the United States in March 2019 with a B-2 visitor visa. Just one month later, she met her future spouse, a U.S. citizen. Their relationship grew over the years, though they experienced a temporary breakup in September 2021. By February 2023, they reconnected, and their bond strengthened.

Since May 2023, the couple has been living together with the petitioner’s mother, sharing a home while planning to move into their own residence soon. They ultimately got married in December 2024—the first marriage for both.

Soon after getting married, the couple met with us in January 2025.  They were both excited and anxious about starting their immigration case in light of the new Trump administration. They were also concerned about whether they had enough evidence to prove that they were in a genuine marriage because they had only been married for less than a month!

We worked with them to gather key evidence that USCIS typically examines.  They had strong evidence of their life together, including life insurance and car insurance policies naming each other, affidavits confirming residence and cohabitation, and photographs documenting their relationship over time.

Our team guided them through the process, helping organize credible supporting documentation.

In August 2025, we filed the I-130 Petition for Alien Relative and the I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence. To our surprise, USCIS moved swiftly on their case and scheduled an interview less than two months later!

We prepared them thoroughly for the USCIS interview.  In October 2025, we appeared with them at their interview at the USCIS Holtsville, NY Field Office.

Just two days later, our client became a lawful permanent resident of the United States, achieving a major milestone in building their life together! Our clients were still newlyweds and had only been married for 10 months at the time the case was approved!
