Jamaican Mother Gets Green Card in Just 5 Months — Without an Interview!

Sometimes, an unexpected turn of events can make an immigration journey feel uncertain. For our Jamaican client, a serious accident and a revoked U.S. visa raised important questions about her future. But with careful case preparation, she was able to overcome those concerns and receive her green card in just five months — without an interview.

Her Story

Our client from Jamaica had traveled to the United States for many years without immigration problems. She regularly visited on a 10-year visitor visa, often traveling to purchase clothing for her business in Jamaica.

That changed after she was involved in a serious car accident in the United States in October 2022. Her injuries required surgery and extended her stay in the country. Around the same period, her U.S. visa was revoked by the U.S. Embassy in Kingston, creating uncertainty about what information may have been placed in her Department of State record.

Her last entry to the United States was in June 2022. She had never filed an immigration case before and was understandably concerned that the visa revocation could create problems with a future green card application.

There was also an important family development: her adult son, who was a lawful permanent resident, naturalized as a U.S. citizen and able to petition for his mother.

How We Helped

We first evaluated the circumstances surrounding our client’s immigration history, prior travel, visa revocation, and potential inadmissibility issues.

After the son’s naturalization, we prepared and filed the adult child-to-parent family-based adjustment of status case, including the I-130 petition and I-485 applications, in March 2026.

Because of the prior visa revocation, we carefully assessed whether there were any issues that could require a waiver or additional explanation. Based on the information available, no waiver was required.

The Outcome

On August 26, 2026, just five months after filing, our client’s adjustment of status application was approved. Even better, USCIS approved the case without an interview.

After decades of traveling between Jamaica and the United States, an unexpected accident, an extended stay, and the uncertainty created by a revoked visa, our client is now a lawful permanent resident of the United States.
