After spending nearly three decades building his life in the United States, our client is now a lawful permanent resident!
Our client from Jamaica came to the United States in June 1998, when he was just 16 years old. He entered the country legally on a visitor visa to visit his parents, who were already living in the United States.
What began as a temporary visit ultimately became a life built in America. His parents decided it would be best for him to complete his high school education in the United States, and he remained in the country beyond the period authorized by his visitor visa.
For 28 years, the United States was his home. He never departed after his initial entry, and no immigration case had previously been filed on his behalf.
Over the years, however, he built deep roots in the United States. He entered a committed relationship with a U.S. citizen, and after five years together, they became engaged. They shared a home and built a family life together, including with his young stepdaughter.
After spending most of his life in the United States without permanent immigration status, he was ready to find out whether there was finally a path forward.
When our client came to us, we carefully reviewed his immigration history to determine whether he could pursue adjustment of status. We carefully screened his history for potential grounds of inadmissibility or other issues that could affect his case.
After determining the appropriate legal strategy, we thoroughly prepared and filed his adjustment of status case.
The case moved quickly. Our client’s Form I-485 was filed on March 20, 2026, and he completed his biometrics appointment the following month, in April 2026.
Shortly thereafter, he attended his adjustment of status interview at the USCIS New York Field Office in May 2026.
On July 1, 2026, our client’s adjustment of status application was approved—just over three months after his I-485 was filed.
