Our Story: A Law Firm by Immigrants, for Immigrants

McBean Law founder, LaToya McBean Pompy, immigrated to the United States from Jamaica, West Indies at the age of six. Early in her legal career, her first immigration case inspired her to found McBean Law.

The case involved a nine-year-old boy from El Salvador who made the dangerous journey to the U.S. after his father was killed for resisting gang recruitment. Attorney McBean Pompy prepared an asylum case for her young client and represented him in immigration court in Manhattan. She later helped his mother and brother with their asylum claims.

Inspired by the opportunity to help more immigrants secure long-term safety, Attorney McBean Pompy left her role in government in 2016 to form McBean Law, PLLC. The firm was founded that year in Dumbo, Brooklyn at a WeWork office. Since then, McBean Law has grown into a nationwide legal practice with over 25 attorneys and paralegals, strengthened by a dedicated team of administrative and support staff.
